Finding Belonging Through Deliver the Dream

By Christina Gaskill

Before we found Deliver the Dream, our family was doing what so many families like ours do — trying to create meaningful experiences for our children while navigating the unique challenges that come with special needs. Every outing required careful planning, backup plans, and emotional energy. Even then, there were moments of second looks and stares that reminded us we didn’t quite fit the “typical” mold.

Like every parent, we wanted our children to experience joy, connection, and community. But finding spaces that were truly inclusive and welcoming wasn’t always easy.

We discovered Deliver the Dream in the most unexpected and wonderful way — at a Marlins game in 2019. In the middle of all the excitement, a Deliver the Dream representative introduced themselves and shared information about the organization. What seemed like a simple conversation at the time opened the door to something that would become life-changing for our family.

From the very beginning, Deliver the Dream made us feel seen, supported, and welcomed exactly as we are. What stands out most is the way they consistently show up for families with compassion, creativity, and heart.

During COVID, when the world felt isolated and uncertain, Deliver the Dream didn’t disappear. Instead, they brought connection directly into our home through virtual events and activities that gave our kids something to look forward to. Those moments of connection meant more than words can express during such a difficult time.

As life reopened, Deliver the Dream continued creating accessible and inclusive experiences where our entire family could participate comfortably and confidently. Every event feels like a place where our family belongs exactly as we are. There’s no judgment, no pressure — just community, understanding, and genuine care.

Through Deliver the Dream, our family has shared unforgettable experiences together, from hockey and baseball games to concerts, museums, and hands-on activities. These moments have given us opportunities to bond, laugh, learn, and simply enjoy being together.

Just as meaningful have been the relationships we’ve built with other families who truly understand our journey. Those connections have helped us grow, reflect, and feel less alone. Our children have gained confidence and joy from being in spaces where they are fully included, and as parents, we’ve found a community that continually lifts us up and reminds us that we are part of something bigger.

Deliver the Dream is more than a program; it’s a lifeline. It’s a place where families can breathe, connect, and experience joy without barriers. From inclusive events to special moments like the magical Toy Chest, every experience is created with intention, compassion, and love.

Deliver the Dream has given us memories we treasure and a sense of belonging we didn’t know we were missing. If you’re wondering whether this organization makes a difference, I can tell you without hesitation: it absolutely does.
