Electronics Drive promotes recycling to raise funds for retreat program

Fort Lauderdale, Fla.Deliver the Dream (DTD) will host its first annual ELECTRONICS DRIVE in partnership with the City of Wilton Manors during the Waterway Cleanup.

On Saturday, March 6 from 9am – 12 pm, Deliver the Dream will be collecting used electronics still in working conditions to recycle and raise money for the charity at Colohatchee Park (1975 NE 15th Ave.) in Wilton Manors. Electronics collected include cell phones, MP3 players, GPS systems, laptops, digital cameras, game consoles and PDAs.

Deliver the Dream breaks it down simply – your old used cell phone sitting in a drawer is worth money that can go to buying an ill child a teddy bear in exchange for a priceless smile and a laugh.

The organization has a goal of collecting more than 200 electronics during the one-day drive. All donations are tax deductible (where allowable by law). If donors can not attend the drive, DTD welcomes electronics mailed to them or dropped off at their office (3223 NW 10 Terrace #602 Ft. Lauderdale).

About Deliver the Dream

Deliver the Dream, Inc. is a non-profit respite and retreat program that serves families facing serious illness or crisis by helping them to enhance coping skills, reduce stress, and cultivate relationships.  Founded by Pat Moran, former chairman of JM Family Enterprises, Inc. Deliver the Dream offers retreat weekends, which combine traditional recreational activities like hiking, swimming, fishing, and rock wall climbing, with therapeutic workshops, peer-to-peer discussion groups and expressive arts and music activities.  The retreats are provided at no cost to participants and enable those they help to regain strength, mend spirits, and just be families and kids again.  The program helps families with an ill child and also reaches out to families with an ill parent.  More than 4,200 family members throughout the Southeast have attended a Deliver the Dream weekend since retreats began in the Fall of 2002.

About the 33rd Annual Waterway Cleanup

The annual Waterway Cleanup is Broward County’s largest environmental event and in 2009 an estimated 2,800 volunteers worked at locations across the county to clean nearly 41 tons of trash and debris from our waterways, rivers and canals.
